Good quick read for on a phone.
I read this book and it shed some light on the agile project management system. The book introduces what Agile PM is and many other things about project management. I took down some notes about it since I think it is sensible and practical. I was able to easily grasp the idea. I learned so much just from reading this.Excellent book on how to coordinate and manage projects. I can definitely see how applying this in a business setting would boost productivity.
Weak and confusing.Weak beacuse it dosn't provide the ideas behind inventing such methology compared to waterfall methodologies.Confusing because it include some other methologies as a type of Agile methologies. For instance, presenting ITIL as an Agile Methology, is completely wrong and confusing. ITIL was created in the 80's especially for service management which really different of project management. The author doesn't seem to see the difference. Any tutorial on the net would do a better job than this book on Agile methology. A waste of money and time.
The Agile project management is a very broad concept that is flexible and help users be more productive. Since I entered the field of project management a few weeks ago, I knew that the Agile project management concept is something I would have to familiarize myself with in order to become an effective project manager.A guide for beginners such as this; with some basic information and principles about the subject, is the kind of guide you want to start with when you are looking at a subject this broad. It was a good read and I know for sure I need to dig deeper and get some more practical examples to be able to understand the subject very well.
I purchased his book to see if it would be helpful for colleagues who are stuck in a waterfall mindset and are unknowingly adhering to the false precision that it brings - e.g. expecting that Gantt charts could actually reflect what is _going_ to happen.Alas, this book is likely more damaging than good. It is flat out misleading. Read other reviews about what the book includes in its discussion of agile methodologies (itil? Really? Very different - sequential vs iterative, contracts vs collaboration, etc). And did they completely miss the agile principles page on agilemanifesto.org? Twelve principles, not ten (see chapter 3). It is like the authors didn’t know that the 12 principles already existe, so they tired to come up with their own. And where did they come up with these? Somebody tell me what this actually means:“Use 80/ 20 rule effectively (Complete the 20% that is going to impact your rest 80% work in the best way possible first –Pareto’s law)â€Aside from the obvious typo(s), I still can’t decipher what this means.I truly don’t want to trash someone’s hard work, but I am sorry, the “book†seems not to be the result of hard work, rather, the result of hasty work — thrown together without any proofreading or continuous refinement.Perhaps the authors are really smart people, and wanted to share their ideas. Great! Take that responsibility seriously. I would suggest/request that they take the book off of amazon and spending a bit more time on it. And only once it is correct and ready, republish it.
This book is very poorly written. I'm not saying there are spelling errors or typos but, seriously, did someone proof read this? It's like the authors are trying to up their credibility by being pretentious. They serious try to find the most complicated way to say things that are really quite simple. I felt like I had reread multiple sentences in this book 3 or 4 times over because you don't catch what they mean until you sit there and break it down. When your talking about basic principles to methodologies, that's a bad sign. The only redeeming part of this book was the scrum section because it's the only section that I found to be written mostly clearly. However, how it's sectioned out is fairly illogical and only makes up 20 pages of the entire book. Then the author literally does a single paragraph each for kanban, domain driven design, pair programming, story driven modeling, lean software development, and clear at the end of the scrum section. Honestly, WTF?I was hoping to walk away with a strong understanding of multiple agile methodologies and ended up walking away with a 20 page crash course on scrum with a bunch of poorly written nonsense in the rest of the book. I would return if I could and buy another book.
A powerful book that will let us understand on what Agile Project Management is all about and how we can implement it correctly. Agile Project management focuses on continuous improvement, scope flexibility, team input, and delivering essential quality products. The Principles of Agile Project Management will help us implement the agile methodologies in our projects and it will guide us on how we can support project teams in implementing agile projects. This book will also help us on how we can get the best out of our employees.
For an overview of agile methodologies, roles and techniques I found the book to be useful. It does however lack detail, is quite disjointed and I didn't find it an easy read.
