This was a very handy guide to bring with me on my trip to Cuba - more useful than most of the bird books, which weigh heavily in your bags in a country where you have to do a lot of walking. While I could have used this better if it also folded in half the other way (to fit in a small fanny pack), it was a convenient guide to pull out for quick identification.
I suppose the part that I did not pick up on before buying 3 of these pockets guides for me, wife and daughter was the part about Guide to Familiar Species. Over half of the guide of the 140 birds are familiar birds one finds in the United States and of familiar birds. Birders in the Field need pictures of birds, not only the endemics, but those less familiar to people that are birding. It may be great for the novice or one that does not want to carry the 1.5 pound Birds of Cuba with them but overall I was disappointed in it and hope if they have a revision they will add more of the birds that are not so familiar. We went on a bicycling tour of western Cuba and loved being able to identify the birds we found. The great photos in this fold-out guide made it easy to ID the birds. I wish the bird names were also in Cuban Spanish and I wish the birds were coded for the habitat where they would most likely be found, but super helpful anyway.
This is a nice quick visual guide to the birds of Cuba. It is by no means complete, but contains the most commonly seen birds and beat lugging the boo around. It does not replace the book, though!
It's a flat, laminated pamphlet, showing most of the birds of Cuba.Perfect for my needs while biking there.It was great to be able to ID almost every bird we saw.
Useful when you don't want to carry your Garrido and Kirkconnell. Nice pictures and well categorized without words.
