Kate Furnivall's latest novel is powerful and entrancing. As with her other novels, also set in far-away lands and times of unrest, Kate manages to bring us into a time period and a setting of which we know nothing about, and do so with elegance, flair, and a great sense of storytelling. Her writing always manages to draw me in and keep me reading, even when I know I'm supposed to be in bed.My only complaint with this book was that I found Ella's story the most intriguing, and kept wanting to know a little bit more about Ella, her husband, and her lover. Ella and Dan seemed more real to me than even Dodie and Flynn. Overall, I wanted more love story, less murder, but that is probably just me.Of course, Kate is a master of plot and narrative, so even following the loops and twists of a fairly complicated cast of characters and interlocking elements is easy in her capable hands. And every character she writes has a backstory and a flesh and blood-ness to them that so many writers never achieve. The Far Side of the Sun is no different. It's almost like we can smell the sea and feel the heat on our faces from Nassau, and we know so well who both Dodie and Ella really are.In the end, I was left feeling a little bit like Ella's husband: shut out from the rest of the story and wanting more. I wanted to know how they all went on afterwards, and what happened Dodie, Ella, and Flynn. These characters have taken up residence in my head!

Set in the beautiful Bahama’s in 1943, this is a page-turning read of mystery that brings together two very different woman – the shy twenty-two-year old Dodie Wyatt and the very elegant wife of a wealthy diplomat, Ella Stanford. Dodie has already endured a turbulent past, and wants nothing but peace, but her peace is shattered when she chooses to help a man stabbed in an alleyway. When the man dies, despite her best efforts, it becomes clear that some people think she knows more than she does, and they want to silence her…but then the richest man on the island is found dead, and Ella and Dodie are drawn together, while around them events spiral into yet more violence, deceit and death. Meanwhile Dodie is drawn to Flynn, a friend to the stabbed man she tried to save, and Ella is drawn to a police officer who has been seconded as her bodyguard…Kate Furnivall consistently delivers a wonderful read that ticks all the boxes for an epic story, wonderful characters, an exotic setting and a novel that will reward until the end. Highly recommended.

This author should have more recognition! I've read all of her books...in fact, after reading the first , which I'd picked up for casual reading, I actually drove an hour one way to a bookstore that had a follow up book in stock 🙀😂Her books are so historically accurate and informative and difficult to put downðŸŒΕΎ

I loved this book. It was well-written and kept my attention throughout. Unfortunately, I could not put it down once I started, so I ended up finishing it quickly. The main characters were very believable, and I liked the setting, as well as the historical facts such as the mystery surrounding the murder of Sir Harry Oakes that were woven throughout the story. This was the second book by this author that I have read (the other being "The White Pearl"), and enjoyed both of them very much.

Kate Furnivall's books are never a disappointment... always a gripping story, totally believable characters, exotic settings and beautifully written. Loved this one!

Albeit in a totally different way, and certainly nowhere near as prolific, Kate Furnivall has, like James Michener, mastered the art of being able to take totally different settings and periods, and create wonderfully entertaining novels. Her best work (three books) take place in Russia. The Russian Concubine is for me, by far, her supreme achievement. Her other writings take place in Egypt, in Malaysia, and now, in the Bahamas. And do note that her stories have totally different plots, mysteries, and characters. Her books are not similarly prototyped; they stand alone and are unique, one from the other. Another thing about the author: her stories always have strong female leads, and all show feminine strength (not to be confused with hardness)--their soft side and virulent sexuality is also on display. For me, this is refreshing and instructive (being a male reader). I am a Kate Furnivall fan, plain and simple. I am already anxiously anticipating her next novel. I just wish all her books were available in hardcover.

There was a lot to get through, but if you do, the ends starts like a tornado and just keeps you locked into reading.

Imbued with the Kate Furnivall style and panache. excellent book .
