I'm a school OT and I got this book to learn about more techniques to use with my students; however, I'm having visual issues trying to read it! I've only gotten to the second section (p. 22) and have run into serious issues comprehending the information because one page will stop at the end of a sentence, but the first line on the next consecutive page starts mid-sentence! Some pages end mid-sentence, but the sentence that starts the following page is another thought or concept. I really hope I can get something out of this book. (I flipped ahead and this problem happens frequently throughout the entire book!) I'm seriously disappointed.

This book was disappointing. I was hoping for more information and treatments I could use in my TBI practice. I found about 3 new ideas that I could take away from this book. However, the biggest disappointment was the poor editing. It was awful to try and read this book! Frequently, a page would end with a period, but the next page would start mid sentence and/or mid activity. I would not recommend this book for that reason alone.

I like how the book has numerous exercises for your eyes that are easy to follow. I had sustained a concussion which affected my vision; the book has fun and creative ways to exercise my eyes.

This was a very basic book with some interesting ideas. My biggest complaint was that the book felt like it was missing sections from one page to the next. I saw more than one instance where a page was started mid-sentence or an activity was described out of the blue. In fact, it happened quite too often to be considered a rare, editing error. If not for all the errors, I would have called this book a nice quick reference book for professionals, or a good "starter" book for those not familiar with visual perceptual processing disorders. Unfortunately, I will not be recommending this book to colleagues or clients because, to be honest, it was frustrating to read at times.

I would of liked more visuals.

Excellent to stimulate vision, especially children, the theory does not focus directly demonstrates forms of applicability of bodily exercises and methods of visual interest. Great ideas to motivate the patient. I recommend.

Great reference for parents that gives hope and answers - this takes and turns tears and fristration into a plan and understanding. A must have reference.

About the Author

Ted Haigh, a.k.a. Dr. Cocktail, makes his living as a graphic designer in the Hollywood movie industry and has worked on such spectacles as O Brother Where Art Thou?, American Beauty, and The Insider. "Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails" is a cocktail recipe book, but--as far as recipe books go--is quite readable and is both easy to digest in part or to read cover-to-cover, depending on your mood. Ted Haigh provides detailed (and interesting) back stories on most of the drinks featured in the book, as well as sidebar sections on many of the lesser-known spirits that the recipes call for. In addition to the main parts of the book, Haigh includes an introduction that covers the resurgence of classic cocktails, a glossary, a bibliography, and a resource guide to help you find many of the rarer ingredients he mentions throughout the text. Haigh clearly put a lot of thought and effort into compiling such a comprehensive guide, and it shows: The book is nicely put together and is wonderfully cohesive, with many of the recipes including references to other, similar or related recipes that can be found elsewhere within the book.I do have a few complaints about the book: First of all, it's spiral-bound, which makes it nice as a recipe book and not so nice as something to sit down and read through. Second, the recipes are often not updated to modern tastes and are geared towards the sweet palates of those who originally created the drinks. For example, try the first cocktail listed, the Almagoozlum, which is virtually undrinkable given its syrupy combination of 1.5 ounces of both Chartreuse and simple syrup, with no citrus to balance. Make sure to carefully review the recipes before pouring and shaking, in order to avoid pouring expensive ingredients down the drain. Finally, the resources section at the end of the book, while a great addition, generally favors a few extremely overpriced Internet retailers. Google around and you'll easily find better options.All in all, despite these few issues, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about the hows, whys, and whens of classic cocktails. I suspect that many of these recipes were forgotten for a good reason (certainly the Almagoozlum!), but just as many deserve to be revisited so that they can once again grace drinkers' glasses. And even if you find the recipes to be entirely without merit, the background stories will still make this book a worthwhile purchase.

This book has been a lot of fun for us.We recently got into making cocktails after renovating the family room, which has a built-in bar from the 60s. After a year of stocking it and making a lot of standard, popular drinks and trying recipes we found online, we started exploring with bitters and aperitifs and some of the less common spirits.That's why this book was a lot of fun for us. There are classic, original recipes for some of the more common drinks we'd already been making, and it was fun comparing them. And there are a lot of unusual drinks we've never heard of. Plus all of the interesting historical backgrounds.What we did was go through page by page, find something interesting that we have ingredients for, read about it and make it and taste. Then on to the next page! It'll take some time to go through it all (I hope) but it's entertaining.As for the ingredients, many cocktails can be made with basic bar liquors (make sure you have some bitters and both dry & sweet vermouth, at least). I'd say that if your bar is stocked with the basics, all you'll want to do is flip through for a few of the unusual things you don't already have so you can try something new. And then have some fun!

This my second copy of this book (my first one got lost while moving). I love the stories and background information that is written with each recipe. This book is functional and educational. I will say it is a VERY expensive hobby to get in to though! There are a lot of rare ingredients that need to be special ordered for certain drinks. I have had so much fun inviting people over to try out these drinks though! We go through the book and make different recipes and divide up one serving between all of us and move on to the next drink. It’s a great way to find favorites and not get too sloshed ; ).

Designed from the get go by a graphic artist with full artistic control and an obsessive and loving attention to detail this book delights at least four of the five senses - okay, all five if you like the smell of good ink) done with exhaustive attention to subject material, layout, paper, printing and virtually every other aspect one could think of.This is a must have classic tome on mixology and of course on classic mixology.While there are many new reprints of classic bar and mixing manual today this one is especially useful from a practical and entertainment standpoint. The wire binding, relatively spill proof paper , backstories and type size/font make it extremely easy to read and use- unlike many of its competitors.Covering 100 extremely hard to find but very worthwhile recipes and the back stories to regale your audience while preparing said recipes.

I got this little book as a stocking stuffer at Christmas. She says it and says it has good info.

I picked up several Sacramento hiking books along with this one.1) Small & compact = easy to carry with you on the hike!2) Information is concise with each of the following items:* Distance* Approximate hiking time* Difficulty - ranges from Easy to Moderate to More Challenging* Trail surface* Best season - lists out best time for bird watching vs. wild flowers, etc.* Other trail users - such as mountain bikes* Canine compatibility* Fees and permits* Schedule - hours/seasons open* Maps - where to get better maps of the area than the black & white simplified image provided in the book* Trail contact - who to call if you have questions* Special considerations - such as "stay on trail to avoid poison oak"* Additional informationAlso each section includes:* Finding the trailhead - driving directions on where to park your car to start your hike* Map with dotted line around a simple black & white drawing of area to show where you'll be hiking* The Hike - information on what you'll experience* Miles and Directions - such as milestones and when to turn on the next part of the trailAppendix has a checklist for the day hiker of items to bring on their hike.Realize this is a small book. There are only 16 routes in the entire book!!Thus its a good place to start for the novice hiker or someone new to the area.I live near Folsom Lake, which you can hike in any direction from multiple starting spots. I thought this was weak and wondered why it was selected for the book from all the other Folsom Lake options.I was looking at the 2008 book Top Trails Sacramento: Exploring Valley, Foothills, and Mountains in the Sacramento Region [TOP TRAILS SACRAMENTO] [Paperback], which is a much thicker book with more options. Both books covered Bobelaine Audubon Sanctuary trail. Nearly both books were identical, though the Top Trails books adds in vertical feet, trail type, facilities and features.Also this book was published in 2009. I appreciate the publisher in the front of the book saying that information gets outdated so contact them, but it seems the Trail Contact info provided is key in making sure you don't drive somewhere only to find the book info isn't relevant any longer. Thus call ahead!Overall, I'm a beginning hiker and love the size of this book, as it gives me some options to start off with.For what this book was intended to do -- give a sampling of some walks within 60min of Sacramento -- then it does what it set out to do.

Beautiful Wall Calendar, I love all the pictures, and the calendar squares are large enough to write notes and appointments in. I hang it in my kitchen as I walk in, so it gives me my schedule and is a delight to see the pictures.

I bought two of these calendars to inspire us on our trip to Italy later this year. They are more beautiful than the photos show. I can't wait to give the 2nd one to my sister who is traveling with us. This is worth the few extra dollars.

It's a lovely reminder of a beautiful vacation and it leaves lots of room for the events I need to add.

Excellent quality and good overall picture selection.

Can't wait for 2017 to use it!

Covers everything from wood selection all the way through the painstaking process of crafting arrows. Includes some info on collecting and processing tendons. Also has an interesting little bit about the shooting style of the Native Americans which fascinated me. I seem to have missed the part about seasoning the staves though... I had been hoping to get some tips on how long to season the wood (is it different for each type of wood? how should I handle storage through the humid summer months? etc.) but I suppose not every book has every detail.

I am a woodworker and woodcarver. I have carved Northcoast Indian masks and an eight foot totem pole. I loved this book. I just purchased it from one of Amazon's used books section. I had checked the hardback edition out from the library and knew I had to own this. I love the background information that the author uses. I am not a bowyer and have only used a bow a few times in my life. My grand-daughter is into Hunger Games so I thought I would try my hand at making a bow for her. I don't know when I will get started but I will be looking for some good Yew wood since I am in the Northwest. I think this is a good book to read even if you don't make a bow. Lots of historical stuff in this little book. I did find that the author was a little off on his mention of the difficulty in finding hide glue in small quantities. He stated that you would have to get a 100 pounds minimum. Of course, maybe when he wrote that it was correct because now it is very easy to get hide glue at specialty wood stores such as Woodcraft, Highland Woodworking, etc. There are alot of photos, black and white, of various American Indians and the author treats the subject with respect. The book repeats some subjects but that is okay because it makes it easier to get into and stay in my head. I think it would be real fun to make a bow and have put this into my top 10 things to make. Easy reading but lots of discussion on measurements, weights and wood properties. I would put this as required reading for anthropology, history and even engineering students. You can't go wrong with this little book. I bought this book for only a couple of dollars at seattlegoodwill which said that it was used but it was brand new so I scored on this one, plus it was good service. The shipping was actually more than the book.

Jim Hamm is well known in the primitive archer community. His books and articles are excellent and he has many years experience constructing bows. This book contains excellent step-by-step, and detailed, instructions on constructing a bow from a single piece of wood. The chapter on arrows is equally enlightening and well written. Regarding arrowheads, flint knapping is a subject unto itself and there are many fine books dealing with this topic - some of them big (as in many pages). Had Hamm dwelt on flint knapping this book would have easily doubled in size. Use it for bow and arrow construction, get another book to learn flint knapping.

I enjoyed this book by Jim Hamm because he accurately depicted the tools and knowledge of the Native Americans. This book is well written with good illustrations. The book is full of great information and is easy to read.

it was priced to move, my Sioux brother spotted eagle said it would be a good place to start.since history is being lost, and the old ways are almost gone.would I say buy this book yes easy to read, lots of facts jim hamm did good

Great read. Built my first bow using this book. Easy to follow for a beginner. Looking forward to making arrows next.

Filled with pictures and description of bows, arrow shafts, heads and fletching from various tribes. Tons of background info and such. Really great if you are interested in native culture or of you are trying to replicate self bows and arrows.

Bought this for my Grandson. Both he and my son liked this book. It shows how go make the arrows and bows and my kids are into that sort or thing.
