This book isn't as bad as many people were led to believe. We actually get some solid Scott Lobdell writing here, and in return I actually can say that I like Jason Todd more than Tim Drake or Dick Grayson at this point. Todd goes about doing what he does without drama, and if there is drama its not overwhelming to the point where you just get bored with the book. Arsenal and Starfire are written pretty much as a back up to Todd in this book, but serve the purpose of showing Todd, friends are often a good thing to have. After reading this book I can understand the controversy around Starfire. She was drawn as a woman every man dreams of "hitting", and to add insult to injury she out of nowhere asks Roy Harper if he wants to have sex. Now I wouldnt have a problem with this if there were actually some development between these two characters before this interaction, but there was none. Roy and Starfire had known each other for 3 weeks, but knew nothing about each other. They didnt even have a connection like Jason and Star had developed. It was unexplained, but if it was done properly it could have added an extra dynamic to the book.Everything else in this book is pretty good. Great story, great main character, great art, and we get some good feats for each character. Almost makes me wanna stop reading Aquaman and Flash, but I won't.If you are curious or want to read about the most bad ass "Robin" Red Hood and the Outlaws is the book to read.
Red Hood: Jason Todd, former Robin, current vigilante, hates Batman.Starfire: Princess Koriand'r of the planet Tamaran, escaped slave.Arsenal: Roy Harper, former sidekick, uses a bow and arrow, likes the color red.Jason and Kori meet by chance, and some time later decide to get Roy out of a mess he's gotten himself into. Soon, they're involved in a battle between Jason's assassin trainers the All-Caste and an ancient evil called the Untitled. They also meet a giant flying lizard bat who hates aliens. (This isn't quite as silly as it sounds.)This is becoming one of my favorite titles of the New 52. I haven't quite caught up yet; I'm only up to volume 3, but I plan on getting volume 4 even though Scott Lobdell left the book at that point. The art by Kenneth Rocafort in this volume is fantastic, and the coloring by Blond really makes it come alive. To keep this review from being too long, I've shifted some things to the comments section.
I liked this comic. Even the the plot seemed most of the time all of the place. I girl it a strong 4 overall. My favorite characters in the run so far is Essence and Roy . I liked essence because she brought mystery to the story and roy because he brought the humour . whats a comic without a good laugh here and there. i will be buying vol 2 soon.
Great art. That's the best thing about it.The story is meh, forgettable and sometimes just "umm what?"I say skip it but the art is the only thing that makes you forget how forgettable the story is. If it weren't for the art I'd have forgotten this.
Scott Lobdell brings us all one crazy thrill ride of a story with Jason Todd as the red hood! The outlaws being Arsenal and Starfire, some more than amazing side kicks. Red and the outlaws take a journey to learn what they can from Ducra, chief(more or less) of the All Caste. Only to help them discover who members of the Untitled are, where they are hiding, and to stop them from what ever they have in store for this world of ours. Good story but can be clustered at times! I give it 3.8/5 stars.
I absolutely loved this story! It's funny and touching, basically everything I wanted in a comic book. I love this starfire even more than pre 52 and I don't understand why other people do not like her. I would highly recommend reading this! Can't wait to get the next volume!
One of the best stories I have read in a while! I was never a big comic book person, but after reading a few Batman comics I was curious about who the Red Hood was so I picked this book up. This book has some great action and even better comedy. It's also an interesting take on some unconventional super heroes. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good read.
At first I was skeptical of this book, but I read the Night of Owls. After reading the comic, I became interested. The author writes a compelling comic. The characters are interesting and a band of misfits caught in the middle of a war between the All Caste and the Untitled. However, hopefully backgrounds of Arsenal and Starfire can be explained in more detail in future comics.
