Must read previous volumes before this one. This volume concludes the story arc against the S4 Team Blue fights against Mask and SkullThere's a training montage and new skill ability (not in game) the team learnsSide story involves team blue against of team that uses only blasters==Now onto impression of the manga series as a whole (up to volume 4).Book reads from right to left.In black and white. No color except for front and back cover. Very disappointing since the game has huge emphasis on color (due to ink). Instead, a lot of exposition is involved in stating colors and names (some inklings look the same with exception of clothes). Art work in general is very good, not as great as the 2D promo art for the game, but decent enough that it makes for a enjoyable read.Character names are simple and based off of what they wear to better distinguish them from one another since some inklings look the same and the fact that there's no color panelsVery basic in terms of explaining game mechanics. Focuses more on characters and comic relief.Manga has unorthodox ways of winning matches. Similar to how the Pokemon anime vs game where Ash tells his pokemon to do a move that not even possible in game.Pokemon example:Tells Pikachu to grab onto Onix's head and use thunderbolt as if it's a lighting rod, or ask Bulbasaur to vine whip a side of a mountain to create an avalanche to make a distraction, making the opponent's pokemon to look the other way then tell Bulbasaur to use razor leaf followed by tackle to finish it off when the opponent's pokmeon isn't looking.Anyway back to Splatoon. Some examples of this in the manga series are:-Riding on a point brush, while using a splattershot-Dodge seeker bombs between legs-Throw teammates while in a bubble shield at opponents-Use food as distractionManga does not focus on a epic quest to save the world like in the main campaign of the video games. Focus is more on characters and matches with the moral of the story being friendships and having fun vs being serious and competitive. There are some reoccurring themes in the manga like showing off main protagonist (Googles) always snacks on pickled plums, how he like to pull down inklings pants. There are some nudity in the manga, but it's censored by splatoon logo and done so in a comic fashionFormat in most volume include: 3-4 story chapters, 1 prequel or filler and an almanac on newly introduced charactersSummary of volumes I've read:Volume 1:Intro to main group, S4 and world buildingVolume 2:Continuation of S4 rivalry. End of story ArcVolume 3:Boss battle battle with main villain Splatoon 1 (game)New fashion/weapons.Intro to Splatoon 2Prelims of new tournamentVolume 4:Build up to semi finals.Go into the formidable Emperor characterCrusty Sean shop/exploration of Inkopolis Square

This is my review from volume #1 as well -- if you like the first you'll like this too! But 100% by vol #1 first!!!!!My niece is obsessed with Splatoon, so I get her everything i see when it comes out in North America from calendars to Amiibos, (not a lot of great Splatoon merch gets made sadly, and its our favorite Nintendo property!). So when I saw these books I took a chance! She loved volume #1, so i ordered #2, and now she likes it so much I'm stuck pre-ordering the new volumes until they stop making them ha-ha. She likes the manga style, and has read them each like 4 times. If you're a Splatoon fan - its perfect.

My son loves this book. He is autistic and does not like to read. Because he love the game he was will to read these books.

woomy!

My son absolutely loves these books. I expect a certain level of quality from Nintendo-licensed products, and apparently this one is top notch. He can't wait for the rest of the series.

This story has so much potential and I am still reading it now. So far it is amazing. Just like the game but much more depth. Funny.

My son read this entire book the night that it arrived. He already has Volume 1, and rereads it all of the time. We just preordered Volume 3. He is a huge Splatoon fan.

My kid loved the first one and loved this one more! He reads them over and over again. He is looking forward to Vol.3

"The 50th Law" by 50 Cent & Robert Greene is a unexpected hidden gem that is worth its weight in diamonds (as are the rest of Greene's books). The main idea of the book, "The 50th Law", is fearlessness. The authors details and conveys how to achieve this through ten chapters each centered around a principle or "law" if you will. 50 Cents life is used as the main template/reference for each principle (and the overarching fearlessness law). However Greene also makes use of other stories throughout history for this purpose as well.Overall I feel the book delivered on its purpose. It's able to convey it's lessons well through both story and reasoning. Also it's alot shorter and less textbooky than Greenes other books so that's a plus.Personally the book was inspiring. I of course had been a casual fan of 50 Cents music but I had no idea that behind the scenes was a man who overcame so much and intelligently clawed his way to the top.As for Greene this was my first book I read by him (well actually I'm reading it and The 48 Laws of Power at the same time). And it was so good that I read through it quickly and went out and bought all of Greenes other books.Greenes books paint a picture of reality as it is not as some want it to be. They give you the tools to protect yourself and thrive in the world. Honestly I feel like I've been given dynamite or the ten commandments after reading all his books. They are that powerful and good.So do I recommend this book? Absolutely for yourself and maybe your spouse or kids (so they can survive and thrive too). However I would advise you to not go around blabbing off about what you learned. When so many other people suck it makes it easier for you to stand out. A good magician never reveals their secerets. If you read this book also at minimum read the 48 Laws of Power. Also check out Greenes other books.

Anyone who may be under the mistaken assumption that this is just a "Hip Hop book" about a "rapper" (even slightly contradicting my own title) should change that perception right now. I am a fan of 50 cent as a rapper and business mogul, but Greene's work goes beyond that and even 50 Cent's own personal life as Curtis Jackson before becoming a rapper, to give you historical examples of everyone from Peter and Catherine the Great, to Niccolo Machiavelli, to Theolonius Monk, Moses, and Abraham Lincoln about how to accumulate and acquire personal power through leadership even in the face of fear and being willing to take risks instead of "passively aggressively" trying to get the things you want in society, which most people do. People may think that Greene's work promotes a kind of amorality or even worse a form of immorality, but I find that Robert Greene's work tends to have a strong moral backdrop, possibly with the exception of "Art of Seduction". In my opinion Greene's outlook may be that it is noble to have the goal of helping others, he even speaks highly of Lincoln's fight against slavery in this book, but your first moral obligation is to be able to help and empower yourself so then you can do things that will help and benefit others, but doing so on your specific and defined terms, that do not end up "helping others" and harming yourself, this is a lesson that can hurt to learn, even for myself, but you see it clearly over and over again, from business to interpersonal relationships, it's better to start off being a bit of an a%& and then become kind, than be kind and be full of resentment and frustration at life's challenges. Anyway I do highly this book, and also Greene's other works even though they may fly on the face of alot of our "politically correct" "passive agressive" culture. Also Recommend:For the Summary Version of Greene's other books:Summary: The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene | Condensed Key Points and Analysishttps://www.amazon.com/Summary-Seduction-Robert-Greene-Ideas/dp/1541222784/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496884186&sr=1-1&keywords=Summary+of+art+of+SeductionOther Self Help/ Improvement:https://www.amazon.com/Subtle-Art-Not-Giving-Counterintuitive-ebook/dp/B019MMUA8S/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1496884260&sr=1-1&keywords=subtle+art+of+not+giving

Great book! A lot of the current self help genre skirts around the issues that raw fear, uneasiness and anxiety generates. This book tackles it head on and explains that fear can be a trap that no amount of extra reading, positive thinking or trite phrases will solve. I have never seen a book that clearly explains the impact of this inner fear and how it clouds your judgment and generates avoidance as a form of coping.Kudos to to Mr. Greene and Mr. Jackson for openly discussing and analyzing this problem and, more importantly, providing a step by step blueprint on how to move your life forward.

Mr. Greene's treatise about fear and its fundamental causes is essential in today's world. If one looks at our society as a whole, and tries to look as deeply as possible, one can see that most of one's actions and those of others are made up of fear based choices. By that I mean, people often choose things based on fear and may not know or be fully aware of it. This book opened my eyes to my own fears and forced me to see what really frightens me. Now that I'm clear on those things, I have a better understanding of how to deal with or even eliminate these unnecessary emotions. This book taught me that fear is just something you experience when you're not really prepared for something that matters to you. Think about it.

I hate zombies. They squig me out. Like, ridiculously. I can't even make it through 10 pages of any zombie novel let alone 5 minutes of a zombie film.I bluddy loved Dread Nation.Justina Ireland is one of the bravest, snarkiest, most phenomenally talented voices in the industry and her newest novel, examining racism and its text/subtext/hypertext, is a stand out read that you cannot ignore. Between her richly written characters (who jump off the page as fully-fleshed out, realistic people that you feel like you not only already know, but want to just be around) and such a PERFECT touch at world-building the reader is lost and doesn't want to come up for air at any point.This. This is the historical "what if" about the Civil War that we - that you, everyone out there in the internets - want.Don't miss out.

"I understand that it is dismaying to know a girl might be wont to strap a revolver to her thigh before attending an educational event."First, I loved this book. I’m writing this weeks after I read it, and I’m still thinking about it. I really liked Ireland’s PROMISE OF SHADOWS, but DREAD NATION is such a leap forward in complexity and craft that’s amazing. I really am in awe of this book that shows us a alternate history of the United States during reconstruction, but reflects our country as it currently exists. Her mind for satire is sharp (and not The Onion hahaha funny headline satire, but the satire of dead serious reflection), and the action is AWESOME and terrifying.I love Jane, the MC of DREAD NATION. She is thoughtful, and impulsive. She is caring, and hateful. She is hilarious, and dead serious. She is such a complex character that she felt alive (insert zombie joke . . .) Her voice felt authentic for the time of reconstruction, but it didn't feel dated or stilted. Her voice was W.E.B. Dubois, Mark Twain, Hariet E. Wilson, and of course Justina Ireland stirred together into a perfect amalgam - poetic at times, sarcastic, and truth throwing always. And Jane is surrounded by fully realized characters from friends and family, to politicians, scientists, and community members. Their relationships feel real, and are at the core of the book. The world building in DREAD NATION is incredible. Justina Ireland knows her history. She knows the culture of the times, popular entertainment, mindsets of people in all levels of society, and science. You feel like you're living in a fully realized world, and as her alternate history shaped by the uprising of the dead during the Civil War progresses you see that she has thought through not just the BIG parts of society and history that would change, but even down to the smallest details (and if this doesn't have a sequel, a series, and HBO show our world will be poorer for it).One of my fave world building parts that took me by surprise was a piece of classic literature. At one point Jane has a copy of the big new book of the time, Tom Sawyer, and it didn’t occur to me how much the book would have changed if Twain was writing during these times. I just thought of the book that I read when I was in school, but nope. Tom Sawyer in this alt-history is of course dealing with mischief, but instead of getting kids to paint fences for him, he’s out dealing with zombies and death, and all with Twain’s humor. We see a bigger part of her world-building in Jane’s combat school. Jane is torn away from her home and taught to battle zombies ("shamblers") while maintaining perfect manners. Though what Jane learns best is how best to usurp all authority as they try to train her to protect the status quo. The schools are based on the real life schools Native American children were forced into to kill native culture, and re-educate them in accordance to Westernized ways of thinking and living, and like those schools her combat school has well-meaning teachers as well as cruelly manipulative. But it's apparent that the "Negro and Native Re-education Act" is put in place so that Black and Native children become a product to protect and serve white people. They maintain white supremacy in a country that is falling into death and chaos. They’re meant to preserve the status quo in a world that would be better served, and might better survive, if it made changes that would value all their people, instead of just the privileged.Of course the school is just the beginning, but as we go out into the wider world with Jane we are confronted with race and racism, science that dehumanizes and experiments on Black people, politics, medicine, communities surrounded by walls with leaders who want to make America great again, passing privilege, deconstruction of beauty standards, privilege, education, code-switching, and deciding who we really want to be our leaders. Who we need to be our heroes. And really, seeing Jane as a hero, Black and epic and proud in this book, is revolutionary all on its own, aside from how brilliantly conceived this books is. Jane is going to change teen readers’ perceptions. I can’t wait to share it with my students, and looking forward to summer reading lists that include DREAD NATION, and really school curriculums that could build entire classes around unpacking the world Justina Ireland created. Anyway, long story short, I liked the book, a lot . . . obv. I wonder if I could get my school system to adopt it to read side by side with another zombie classic we can't stop teaching, To Kill A Mockingbird. No joke. New personal mission : )

Hands down, this story was one of the best pieces young adult fiction that I've witnessed in quite some time. To have a fictional story such as this, and for it to contain so many elements that speak to me is downright amazing. Its one thing to read a fictional tale, and god knows i've read plenty, but to be able to identify so strongly with not only Jane, but with a number of the bevy of characters whom we are introduced to.The life of an Attendant is most certainly a grueling task and Jane is a young woman who plies her craft well for her utmost survival. What made me love the main character so much is how flawed of a woman she is as we witness her moments of hubris, vulnerability, jealousy, and other traits intermixed with her heroism. Jane is a black woman who is careful of the optics which surround her and most certainly knows how to pull the "okey doke" in the realm of white supremacy. She deceptively tones down her keen intellect, her brassy attitude, and her deadly potential to put the minds of her oppressors at ease when she is far beyond the boundaries that they ignorantly believe her kind to be capable of. It's a tiresome and frustrating tactic having to conceal one's true potential, but its one that keeps her safe and her enemies for the most part unguarded.Miss "Rich White Woman", Miss Katherine Deveraux was a standout. Like Jane she's also an Attendant, but unlike Jane she possesses a special trait that eludes Jane which is her proximity to whiteness. With her light skin, softened and loose hair texture, and her eurocentric features, she is seamlessly able to navigate the surroundings of her oppressors with ease. She, like Jane is a strong woman worthy of a true Attendant who rises above her peers. She also makes one fine Nemesis as their personalities differ like night and day. She carries the makings of a exquisite woman, with the personality to match. Beyond her fair complexion, she possesses has a Je ne sais quoi about her that has men falling over themselves, and leaves Jane mad with envy and insecure about herself. I empathize with Jane for her feelings of jealousy. You cannot help but feel the way she does when you have the entire world saying you're undesirable for who you are. Even by today's standards, Its the fair and light being placed to the forefront. Admittedly, I hated people like Katherine growing up. The light, bright, damn near white, ones who think by just the way that they look, they are somehow better when at the end of the day, you will never truly be one of them. Katherine however had proven to be furthest thing from that. As someone consciously aware of her privileges, She used her natural traits and her upscale "boujee" behaviour as a means to ensure survival for herself AND for Jane. She had absolutely no time for the affluent, privileged, and downright racist community that she was forced to become a part of, and with each passing day could read that it ate away at her. I grew to adore Katherine just as much as Jane. The dynamics between the two were so organic and despite their differences, these young ladies had more in common than they were willing to admit. There were times where I had to put the book down because I felt a deep seated feeling of anger at the treatment Jane was forced to go through. The obstacles she faced for being who she was took me back to some of the unfair experiences I faced as a black kid growing up. With the times, the ugliness of racism truly never dies. It simply evolves into something more concealable, not so blatant, yet equally as painful. Even in the face of what seems to be the end of days, they STILL must find a way to be on top! It was frustrating to read, but it strengthened my connection to Jane. As Wise Lady Whitley Gilbert would say, "I know this woman." I see elements of Jane in the mother who raised me, the older sister who protected me, and the "down for anything" bulldagger cousin who jumped in to take over a fist fight I was losing. I had to pace myself not to get through with this story to quickly because I sincerely did not want it to end. Its been so long since I've read something that I could Identify with. Finding stories with strong and BELIEVABLE people of color who arent side cast as the sassy, matronly, stereotypical, non believable, and ultimately forgotten types are genuinely hard to find. I was truly blessed to have both Children of Blood and Bone and Dread Nation at the same damn time, in the same damn year. Bless you Justina! I was truly honored.

Awesome and surprising little book. No one would have guessed that H.M. The Prince of Wales, aka Charles, was capable of such creativity, at moments almost irreverent anf extremely funny. Be prepared for a good laugh with this book. Too bad this is his only book penned in this stile. A must in my humble opinion in every library.

Must have to be Scottish to like it.

I lost my original copy and have been looking for a replacement for quite some time. I didn't think I would find it so easily.

I have started reading this to my son. It is such a good childrens book. It is a fun way to bring some of my culture to my son

What a pleasant story to read to children.

sweet little book'

The Idea of Phenomenology is Volume VIII of the recent Husserl's Collected Works Series published by Kluwer. This small text consists of five short lectures (and some immediate post-lecture reflections) given by Husserl in 1907. These lectures represent the first public exposition of his phenomenology and are reminiscent of Descartes' Meditations - in that Husserl grapples with the question of knowledge. Lee Hardy's new English translation is generally clear and readable. Although probably for a limited readership, I recommend it for fans of Husserl and readers interested in the origins of phenomenology.

Edmund Gustav Albrecht Husserl (1859-1938) was a German philosopher who established the school of phenomenology. He was born into a Jewish family (which later caused him to lose his academic position when the Nazis came to power in 1933), but was baptized as a Lutheran in 1886. He wrote many books, such as Ideas: General Introduction to Pure Phenomenology,On the Phenomenology of the Consciousness of Internal Time,The Crisis of European Sciences and Transcendental Phenomenology,Cartesian Meditations, etc.He says in the first lecture, “The METHOD of the critique of cognition is the phenomenological method, phenomenology as the general doctrine of essences, within which the science of the essence of cognition finds its place. What sort of method is this? How can a science of cognition be established if cognition in general, what cognizing means and can accomplish, is questioned? What method can here reach the goal?... Right away we become dubious whether such a science is at all possible. If it questions all cognition, every cognition chosen as a starting point is questioned. How then can it ever begin?” (Pg. 1-2)He notes, “The genuinely immanent … is taken as the indubitable just on account of the fact that it presents nothing else, ‘points’ to nothing ‘outside’ itself, for what is here intended is fully and adequately given in itself… So… the first step toward clarity is now this: the genuinely immanent… the adequately self-given, is beyond question. I may make use of it. This which is transcendent … I may not use. Therefore, I must accomplish a phenomenological reduction: I need to exclude all that is transcendentally posited.” (Pg. 3-4)He suggests, “as soon as we begin to reflect on the correlation between cognition and reality … there arise difficulties, absurdities… which drive one to the admission that the possibility of cognition as far as its reaching the object is concerned is an enigma. A new science, the critique of cognition, is called for. Its job is to resolve confusions and to clarity the essence of cognition… In the beginning no cognition can be assumed WITHOUT EXAMINATION…it must rather base itself on the cognition which is immediately evident and of such a kind that, as absolutely clear and indubitable, it excludes every doubt of it possibility and contains none of the puzzles which had led to all the skeptical confusions.” (Pg. 25-26)In the third lecture, he states, “It is also clear that the cognitions present a sphere of absolutely immanent data; it is in this sense that we understand ‘immanence.’ In the ‘seeing’ pure phenomena the object is not outside cognition or outside ‘consciousness,’ while being given in the sense of the absolute self-givenness of something which is simply ‘seen.’ But here we need assurance through epistemological reduction, the methodological essence of which we now want to examine in concreto for the first time. We need the reduction at this point in order to prevent the evidence of the existence of the cognition from being confused with the evidence of the sum cogitans, and the like.” (Pg. 33)He summarizes, “Basically what I am saying amounts to this. The ‘seeing’ or grasping of what is given, insofar as it is actual ‘seeing,’ actual self-givenness in the strictest sense and not another sort of givenness which points to something which is not given---that is an ultimate. That is ABSOLUTE SELF-EVIDENCE; if you are looking for what is not self-evident, what is problematic, or perhaps entirely mysterious, consider the reference to something transcendent, i.e., intention, belief, even a detailed proof of something not given. And it does not help us that even here an absolute datum can be found---the givenness of intention and belief themselves. To be sure, if we only reflect we will find this before us; but what is given here is not what was intended.” (Pg. 39-40)He explains, “Let us now consider some cases in which a universal is given, i.e., cases where a purely immanent consciousness of the universal is built up on the basis of some ‘seen’ and self-given particular. I have a particular intuition of redness, or rather several such intuitions. I stick strictly to the pure immanence; I am careful to perform the phenomenological reduction. I snip off any further significance of redness, any way in which it may be viewed as something transcendent, e.g., as the redness of a piece of blotting paper on my table, etc. And now I fully grasp in pure ‘seeing’ the MEANING of the concept of redness in general… the universal ‘seen’ as identical in this or that. No longer is it the particular as such which is referred to, not this or that red thing, but redness in general. If we really did this in pure ‘seeing,’ could we then still intelligibly doubt what redness is in general, what is meant by this expression, what it may be in its very essence?... Could a deity, an infinite intellect, do more to lay hold of the essence of redness than to ‘see’ it as a universal?” (Pg. 44-45)He concludes, “we find evidence in the universal; we recognize that universal objects and states of affairs attain self-givenness. And they are unquestionably given in the same sense; hence they are adequately self-given in the strictest sense of the term. Hence phenomenological reduction does not entail a limitation of the investigation to the sphere of genuine… immanence, to the sphere of that which is genuinely contained within the absolute this of the cognitio.” (Pg. 48)He further says, “Thus as little interpretation as possible, but as pure an intuition as possible… And the whole trick consists in this---to give free rein to the seeing eye and to bracket the references which go beyond the ‘seeing’ and are entangled with the seeing, along with the entities which are supposedly given and thought along with the ‘seeing,’ and, finally, to bracket what is read into them through the accompanying reflections. The crucial question is: Is the supposed object given in the proper sense? Is it… ‘seen’ and grasped, or does the intention go beyond that?” (Pg. 50-51)This brief book, though “early” in Husserl’s career, contains some of his clearest explanations of his ideas; it will be very helpful to persons studying Husserl and phenomenology.
