I bought this because I needed a planner towards the end of the year and couldn't find any that covered the date range I needed. It worked well enough until the year changed and I could buy a real planner. I wish it had a spiral spine or something but it's fine.

I love the design and room for writing. Sturdy cover and heavy paper inside. Perfect for my small business!

love this daily planner!

Gave as a gift. Recipient was pleased. A sturdier cover would be nicer.

love it

Exactly as described. Fast shipping

This item is really well made and exactly as described!

Other than that it's perfect

Zathura, by Chris Van Allsburg

From Publishers Weekly

Twenty years after Jumanji (1981), Van Allsburg picks up where he left off, with Danny and Walter Budwing discovering an oblong box in the park. Walter dismisses the box as "just some dumb old game," but his curious younger brother takes it home anyway. While Walter watches TV, Danny glances at the game's "jungle adventure" board, then turns his attention to a second board with an outer-space theme and "a path of colored squares leading... to a purple planet called Zathura." Just then, "with a click, a small green card popped out of the edge.... He picked it up and read, `Meteor showers, take evasive action.' " The boys don't act too surprised when a giant meteor falls into their tastefully appointed living room, but they do get excited when they see only stars and dark sky outside their windows. Several dice-rolls later, they're scrambling to evade a homicidal robot and a scaly "Zyborg pirate" climbing backward through the meteor-hole in the ceiling (its face goes unseen). As the boys play, their sibling rivalry gives way to cooperation, and grouchy Walter comes to appreciate his little brother. Van Allsburg illustrates the surreal events in a grainy charcoal-black that seems to shimmer on a rough, cream-colored ground. His deathly quiet images double spreads this time have a frozen stillness that leaves all color and activity to the imagination; with each new threat, the book seems to hold its breath. Van Allsburg reuses some devices, and Zathura, like Jumanji, is a satisfying enigma. The puzzling conclusion, involving a black hole and time travel to an earlier illustration, will have devotees scouring the first book and its sequel for clues. All ages. From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 5-For more than 20 years, readers of Jumanji (Houghton, 1981) have had to wonder what happened when the Budwing brothers opened the box that Peter and Judy had frantically discarded in the park. The wait is over, but the wonder continues in this masterfully executed sequel. Walter's physical torture of his younger brother and Danny's annoying behaviors are classic sibling stuff, but savvy readers will recognize that this lack of camaraderie does not bode well here. The simple jungle board does not appeal to Walter, however, so it is not until another game board is uncovered at the bottom of the box that the action begins. This time, the children face the challenges of space, time, and dimension as they read the game cards: "The polarity on your gravity belt is reversed" and "Your gyroscope is malfunctioning." Their journey to the planet Zathura allows Van Allsburg to depict Walter plastered against the living-room ceiling or being swallowed by a black hole. As ringed planets and spaceships swirl past the windows, the boys find their way to teamwork and even affection. Van Allsburg's choice of highly textured paper adds interest and character; the patterned wallpapers are especially effective as homey counterpoints to the surreal story. The creamy background provides warmth and contrast to the black-and-gray sketches, so convincing in conveying depth of field. One can't help but anticipate the encore.Wendy Lukehart, Washington DC Public LibraryCopyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.

I can't figure out what all the hubbub is about this book. The illustrations are pretty neat, but the story isn't especially engaging and my six year old daughter is somewhat bored by the long story line on each page, often including much beyond the accompanying illustration. I could easily see how twice as many illustrations could be used without it coming across as a book for very young children. Also, if your child is familiar at all with the movie, they'll be downright confused by the story and the fact that the game they find is Jumanji, not Zathura!! For a second, I thought I had bought the wrong book!

My kid loves anything space-related. After watching the movie Zathura for the millionth time, I tried to get him to watch its predacessor, Jumanji, and he really couldn't be bothered with it because... no space stuff. So we checked out the book, Zathura, and he was hooked. We checked it out so many times, they told us we had to stop for at least a two-week cycle every month so someone else could read it. After searching for months at used and new bookstores, I just ordered it from Amazon. The story revolves around Danny and Walter, two brothers who are constantly fighting and bickering. After tusseling in the park on the way home, one of them finds an old board game box next to a tree with the word "Jumanji" printed on it. It had been left there by Peter and Judy after their adventures in the original book of the same name. Walter and Danny take it home, and when they find the jungle board game a bit too immature, they magically find another board wedged into the bottom of the box. One with spaceships and aliens printed on it.You can probably guess where it goes from there -- the boys take turns trying to reach the planet Zathura to get home, while everything from meteors to lizard aliens to a homicidal robot destroys their house around them.As always, the illustrations are beautiful and somewhat wistful, in the same odd way that Van Allburg's other books tend to be.

I bought the book for a Van Allsburg book study. It lends itself well to his body of works, and provides a nice second part to Jumanji (or first, if you want to make that connection between the characters after the kids have been introduced to them). A great addition to the series- a little jumpy in its "in the moment" action parts, but still a good, captivating read-- even for kindergartners.

Chris Van Allsburg is absolutely incredible. Each book I get for my son gets better and better. I will be grabbing each one in his collection.

We got this as a gift for our son, who LOVES space. He loves it! The art is great, and the book's size makes it easy to get lost in the illustrations. The story's not too long, so it's great for a bedtime book for kids known to stall, as it won't take forever to get through. It's different from the movie, if you're familiar with that; more kid-friendly.

Beautiful book. Great story and brilliant illustrations.

Chris Van Allsburg showcases his writing in this book like his others.

It's Ok, thought it would be a regular size paper back. Didn't do my research. Still a good story.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and took my time reading it. I could "hear" Mr. King's "voice" in my head as I read this on my iPad Kindle app. I felt like I was reading something from a friend---as if he had written a personal letter to me--- to give me an understanding of what he went through to become the person he is today. I think that his directives about the "how-to's" and "don't do's" were very practical. I breathed a sigh of relief when I got the feeling that writing classes and clubs are kind of a waste of time. Just write, is what I think he was telling me, I mean, his audience. I will probably read it again. What I got from his personal, real-life-lessons is this: Read a lot. Read good stuff. Write all the time. Find a place and write. Don't share your stuff unless you share it with someone you can trust. Go with your gut. Write all the time (I said that already because he said it or inferred it frequently). Don't use the same adjective over and over. Stick to the point. Don't over-do it on the descriptions. Let your audience see the movie you see in your head, because if you write it well, they will. I am glad this wasn't a "point by point HOW TO WRITE a story or a book" book, because really, writing isn't something you can do easily from a bulleted list. Writing is something you do from your heart, and you keep doing it until it's right and good. And then when that person you trust reads your stuff and offers some criticism, you can take it for what it's worth and use it or not.

I purchased this book because the description stated that it contained all 4 books including Rage. What a disappointment to receive the book and open it to find that it includes only 3 of the 4 books... no Rage! If you are looking to complete your stephen king collection, avoid this copy! Incredibly frustrated buyer!

The main reason I bought this book was that the description said that it included the story "Rage". I was dying to read that, and the other three stories would be a bonus. Well, what a major disappointment to receive the book and find that "Rage" is not included. There are three stories, not four, and I will be returning this book due to false advertising. Very, very disappointed.

Some books I rate with 5 stars just because of my pleasure in the story. These aren't always well-written or creative, or something someone else would like. Then there are those books that are so well-crafted, not just with character development or storytelling but in the writing itself. This is one of those books. I've always given Stephen King credit as the "king of the flashback" and here he gives us some of what he does best, but he also shows again his ability to get inside the head of the character in the present. From making up lyrics to songs sung by a fictional boy band and the brand names of fictional ice cream treats, to details of a Midwestern city that make those of us living in Midwestern cities think ours is the one in the story. I wondered in the beginning of the book if King was making a game in paying homage to himself with hints he dropped to reference some of his previous best sellers, but he played this game for just a short while. There are plenty of other pop-culture references in the minds of the various characters that do well to establish their ages and backgrounds. As the story unwinds after the climactic events, my emotions surprised me. I've cried while reading books before, but not while reading the words of a bureaucratic proclamation!

I have been an on-again, off-again reader of Stephen King’s over the last decade or so (I was more loyal prior to that time) as sometimes I like his stuff and sometimes I don’t. The last one I read was the awful "Under the Dome," which was long, pointless and ultimately just silly, and I wasn’t thinking of reading anything else by him until I read a couple of reviews by Charles de Lint in a recent Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. I trust Mr. de Lint’s tastes, so when he praised "Mr. Mercedes" and its follow-up, I figured I’d give them a try. Mr. Mercedes is the nickname given to a man who stole a car (guess what make) and plowed into a group of job seekers standing outside a building waiting for a job fair, killing 8 and wounding many others. Recently retired cop Bill Hodges has been drifting since his retirement, regretting that he didn’t catch certain bad guys, including Mr. Mercedes, but when he receives a letter purporting to be from the villain, instead of succumbing to depression as the writer intended, he begins to investigate. And, of course, the investigation just becomes more and more dangerous as he continues to delve into the mystery…. The reader knows who the culprit is from early on in the book, so the appeal is following the cat-and-mouse hunt as the suspense builds. King is as good as he ever was with respect to his characters and plotting, and he’s always great with the gross-out scenes (which here are not too many, thankfully). This turns out to be the first book in a trilogy, and I’ve already picked up the second, "Finder’s Keepers," with the third due out in mid-2016. Fast-paced popcorn reading, "Mr. Mercedes" just hits the spot; recommended!

What a fantastic start to a brand new series! Modified is a gripping sci-fi dystopian thriller. I love reading dystopian stories and trying a new author is always risky, but I was not disappointed. From the beginning you are drawn in with interesting characters and the non-stop action ensures you will be reading straight to the end. Fans of the Maze Runner & Virals series will want to try this book out. While Modified is written for teens, I feel adults will enjoy this story as well.Seventeen-year old Fin is a dweller, born and raised in a parentless underground cavern called the Oven. When she is old enough to work she is thrown into the mining shafts to work until she dies. In this futuristic Earth the world has been dismantled and made uninhabitable by extreme radiation. Only the genetically modified are allowed above, for these are the people who have wealth and status. When Fin and her friends stumble upon a hidden device that can enhance abilities and adapt the dwellers to the Earth’s surface, they find themselves on the run from the government who want their technology back. They soon find members of a resistance who hope to start a revolution. Fin and her friends are stuck far from home, but with a few new friends, on a mission to save the world.I received an ARC at no cost from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All my opinions and thoughts are in no way influenced by this.Final Rating: 5 Stars

This is a book that will grab you from the first page and draw you in until the very end. Very impressive writing for a debut novel and author. Well done, Harper North!I was thrilled when I was contacted to read this book as an ARC. It did not disappoint. I am one of 'those' readers that has to be grabbed from the first page in order to stick with a book. This novel does just that and more. I loved both the character and world building throughout the book.I definitely recommend to readers who are fans of "The Maze Runner" and other books in this genre.Modified is the first book and just the beginning of an amazing series that I look forward to reading.Thank you for the advanced read and for a book that grabbed me from page one!

I think this quote quite accurately describes "Modified": "I came to the surface to save a little girl, nothing more. Now it seems I've jumpstarted a revolution."I absolutely loved the characters that Harper has created in this dystopian future of Earth. The book gave me a "Hunger Games" vibe, but remained unique in plot and character development. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! This is definitely one of my new favorite authors. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of the book.

This book took a while to get into initially. I thought that it picked up about half way through. There was no romance or chemistry between the characters so I was not really invested in the outcome.

Love it! Lots of laughing. This is a new take on the future. Hold onto your seat because the rides about to start. Enjoy as much as I did.

Was a good YA read, fast pace in the story, I felt a little outside from the characters, couldn't connect with them, but has potential to be an awesome dystopian story, look forward to book 2.

This book was boring...and really had a weak plot line. I've read quite a few futuristic books like these and this one I would not recommend

His book was exciting and fast-paced. I like the writing style and felt the contrast between the underground world and the surface was well done. I am on to the next book in the series!
