WOW. This is clearly an illegitimate, pirate-edition text.The cover art is EXTREMELY pixelated, clearly put together cheaply and crappily. See photo. The back cover doesn't have ANYTHING on it except a paled-out version of the front cover, and a barcode.It doesn't even have a title page with the most basic information. No copyright notice, no ISBN or printing/edition info, no publisher’s address, the year the book was published, and the Library of Congress Catalogue information. This book doesn't even list the PUBLISHER! If you want this book for any research purposes, you won't be able to CITE it. Unbelievable.I just got it in the mail five minutes ago, so I can't speak to the content, but I can tell you this: The book is ENTIRELY printed with one font size (which, again, is small), and very little formatting efforts made to assist the reader. Everything is single spaced, with a single line between paragraphs. This even holds true when a new chapter begins! This book could really not be formatted any worse. See the photo of the open book.Amazon, you should NOT be selling this particular edition!

I recommend it for all believers for it will reinvigorate your steadfastness.

I've just started reading this book and I know that it's going to change my life. I am so thankful the accounts of precious lives of my brothers and sisters in Christ being recorded and in one book.I appreciate the accuracy of the retelling of their stories. I also appreciate the amount of work the editor put into this book to make it easier to read (language-wise) and for updating it so it includes modern-day accounts of incredible believers.Incredibly encouraging, heartbreaking, and sobering. Every Christian really needs to read this.

Foxe's Book of Martyrs is a great book, but this is an edited version that does not always follow the original. This edition is much more difficult to read than many others available.

Besides the Bible, this is one of the classics of the Christian Faith. If you love Christ and His people, you'll find yourself praying for the Martyrs.They are still out there, and we will be. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Faith. God bless our persecuted brethren!

This is in old english and very hard to read. I ended up ordering... Foxe's Book of Martyrs (Pure Gold Classics) Paperback – November 1, 2001... instead. Much easier version, modern day english. I included a picture of the more readable version.

I confess that I have not read the complete book. Reading about so many Christians martyred in so many cruel ways was too distressing to sit down and read it all. I have read sections of it at different times and will continue to do so periodically. I always wonder if I would have the courage to face such horrific death as so many of these martyrs did.

Painful and terrible history of the horrific suffering of early Christian martyrs. Some Christians today think they suffer for the faith if they have any difficulty, but the martyrs in this book break your heart. These people have earned the right to sit near the Throne.

I began reading then I moved and after losing it in boxes, I used it as a decorative book in my bathroom and just began rereading it. Definitely not a light read but has some interesting points and very cute addition in my bathroom decor

This book was bought as a present for my sister. I bought it used and when it arrived it was in perfect condition! I can say she has gotten a lot of use out of it so far, and has been able to say she loves what she has learned!

The historical information regarding the climate of the times in the pre-World War I US, combined with the tale of Lusitania's final voyage, was extremely fascinating. The main characters were interesting, but I thought the plotting was somewhat heavy-handed. I enjoyed the ambiguity of the ending, however.I was inclined to give the book only 3 stars (wishing I could give it 3 1/2), but the inclusion of the author's great grandfather, who actually was aboard during the fateful voyage, made me upgrade to 4, wishing for 4 1/2. He was great, very real, and quite the hero. His story came down to the author through his daughter, her grandmother. I loved him, and would love to have known him.Definitely recommended!

The research incorporated into this novel was the main reason I read this book. But the plot concerning Brooke, Sydney and Edward seemed to be targeted towards young adults. Brooke was too silly to be taken seriously and Edward so veddy English and sexless. Sydney trying to be a feminist also seemed artificial to me and this caused a boring read. There were too many uninteresting parts that made me want to start skipping pages. The ending was not very realistic either concerning Edward and Sydney and their great love affair. Too bad as the premise was interesting.

This is a beautiful poingient novel written by Kim Izzo. This author has a beautiful sense of story. It is a wonderful meldiing of fact and fiction. Her writing style is sublime. She can put you smack dab in the scene, whether Sydney is walking up some metal stairs and runs smack dab into the locked gate....you are there with her. She captured the importance of the first class opulence and in many ways their self ascribed thoughts that they were better than everyone 'beneath them in station' and the vast difference between the cultures and incomes.It did feel to me as though the ending was a bit abrupt. It left me hanging. I wanted so to know that Edward made it through the war and that the wounds had been healed and that they all lived past that week or so after the sinking.I would recommend this book.

What an exciting and tragic story. Comparing it to terrorism like the 911 tragedy made it more real. I never knew there was a pre Bletchley Park, but it is so difficult to know all history without the aide of such authors.I did find it difficult to believe in 1917 a woman's past would not be held against her.

I have read several non fiction books about the sinking of the Lusitania, and this seemed quite true to actual events. I couldn’t put it down.

I liked the story. I had never read much about the Lusitania disaster, so this was interesting. I was a little disapointed in the ending, but after thinking about it, I decided it was a realistic ending after all.

This was an excellent book. It started off a little slow ,but then once all the characters were introduced everything started to fall into place. I could not put this book down.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a romance novel but with historical fact in there also. I could just picture the poor souls on that fated ship, how horrible it must have been for them. It was interesting to learn what was the norm for women at that time, we've come a long way baby!! If in fact the English, or should I say Churchill, more or less let this happen to get America into the conflict, that's pretty sad. All in all a very interesting read, if you like historical novels, then I highly recommend this one!

As someone who was once a performing-arts-obsessed teen, the protagonist rang so true. I think the author excellently portrays her desires, concerns, and struggles around her art -- as well as broader issues of growing pains, family dynamics, and "living in two cultures" as the child of immigrants.I actually went into the book expecting a darker story with more fantasy/horror elements (like, ballet meets Lovecraft). If that's what you're after, this book may disappoint. But taken for what it *is* -- a coming of age story with some supernatural undertones -- it's lovely. The human drama was compelling and I'm actually glad it wasn't overshadowed by the fantastical elements, which instead catalyze the interpersonal drama and lend some interesting symbolism. (Let's just say that supernatural creatures whose deal is dancing people to death... come across a bit differently to folks whose lives are devoted to dance.)The writing style is clear and doesn't draw attention to itself. Part of me wishes it were more lyrical, but given that (a) it's a first-person narrative of a teenage girl and (b) a big theme of the novel is how dreams need to be rooted in reality, I think the more realistic style suits it. There's also a nice use of cultural references, with invocations of Russian folklore and food, ballets and Shakespeare plays, Harry Potter, classical music, and even Star Trek. Perhaps because the culture I consumed/studied as a teenager strongly invokes my own sense of nostalgia, it really helped create the atmosphere for me.So even though I went into this book expecting something quite different, I love what it turned out to be. I'd heartily recommend it to anyone with an interest in the topics it touches on.

I was introduced to Cidney Swanson's writing through her awesome series, Rippler. I now have a collection of her books on my Kindle and this one was no disappointment.What might have been a simple tale of family disagreements, becomes a more haunting recounting of the battle between vengeance and forgiveness when the legendary sirens are rumored to have returned to town.Ms. Swanson delivers an intelligent and thought-provoking story in her book Siren Spell, that I daresay will leave readers spellbound just as it did me.

I adore Cidney Swanson's work. I've read her two very different (and completely awesome) series and now this wonderful entertaining standalone story. She works as beautifully in the fantasy genre as in the sci figure genre. Ms. Swanson, I love your writing. Please don't stop. I can't wait for whatever you choose to share with us next.

I enjoyed reading this book. This book has wonderful characters and a wonderful plot. I had a hard time putting this book down.

I loved this story, it was really a great look into a mother/daughter story and realizing your mother has a life outside of just being mom.

I really enjoyed the blend of ballet, myth and Shakespeare references, along with the character development. The story moved along quickly and was hard to put down. I especially liked Grandma Babushka. The stormy relationship between Giselle and her mother was pretty realistic.

Once again, Ms. Swanson knocks it out of the park. Her writing style is outstanding, and makes this such an interesting story. But she makes the reader feel the story. I highly recommend this book.

Kept my attention. Cidney Swanson has a wonderful imagination. I would recommend this book.
